Discipline: Get Your Act Together

Discipline is the foundation upon which success is built. It is the ability to regulate your behavior, prioritize your goals and overcome challenges. I started to see results in my weight loss journey. These results were only possible with discipline.

With steady progress over the next few months. I shed 20, then 30 and eventually 40 pounds.

This journey was starting to show actual tangible results. Friends and family started telling me they saw visual changes. As I burned more fat; my face became less full. My belly started to shrink I had more room in my clothes. I needed to tighten my belt another notch. These simple impactful changes sparked an excitement within me. I felt the fire burning inside me to keep going. A spark turned into a bonfire.

Losing weight is a journey which takes discipline. I had to sacrifice to get where I am. Without a lifestyle change this would be impossible. Giving up pleasure, like Dr. Pepper for example, is a necessary hurdle to get over. Not only do I have to sacrifice pleasurable food and drink but I also have to add healthy ones. Skipping Dr. Pepper for water or trading ice cream for broccoli takes focus and discipline. It’s not just about making a choice for a short time, but about deliberate daily commitment.

To be honest, there were days when I fell short. But failure never takes away the power to choose again. Each day, each moment is an opportunity to improve. This doesn’t give you an excuse to fail rather it gives you the drive to move forward. Dust yourself off after a bad day and get back to crushing it. Don’t stay down get back up and strive to improve. When standing at the crossroad; I ask myself, “Will my excuses define who I am or will I shape my future with my perseverance?”

Many people ask me about my weight loss experience. Often asking for tricks, tips or secrets to combat obesity. Including my advice on kicking my soda addiction. The truth is there are no tricks. There is no scheme to living a healthy life. There is no easy path or short cut to losing weight. You have to be disciplined. Motivate yourself. You must take ownership of your decisions and cultivate the discipline to consistently strive to improve yourself. The only advice I can provide is to become relentless in your battle against obesity. If you are looking for the easy way, a trick or scheme to get it done you aren’t ready. You have to be willing to sacrifice and stay disciplined.

It’s easy to get fat; it takes effort to stay the same; but it takes relentless discipline to improve.

Any person has the chance. Anyone can improve. Everyone has the capacity to stand against the challenge. If a struggle comes your way use it as an opportunity to conquer. Ask yourself “Will excuses define you???” Get up and get to work.

“Without discipline, no matter how talented you are, you are nothing…”- Mike Tyson.
